Lackeen Castle, County Tipperary, in August 1987.
A fine four storey tower house, situated within a large bawn, an Irish National Monument. Adjacent to the bawn, an early eighteenth century house is sited adjoining a two storey seventeenth century house (protected structures), giving a continuous history of habitation on this important site.
The O’Kennedy family found the Stowe Missal manuscript hidden in the walls of the castle, it was probably placed there to save it from the dissolution of the nearby monastery.
Only took the one photograph at the time of my visit, as the site should have been well documented, being a National Monument, and film was very precious in those days.
