Derryhivenny/Derryhiveny Castle, County Galway, in March 1986. A rare blue sky, there do not seem to have been very many in those days!
One of the last tower houses to have been built in Ireland, 1643. Note the Jacobean chimneys. .
Well described by Harold Leask in his classic book “Irish Castles and Castellated Houses”.
It was in a good state of preservation in 1986. Interesting remains of the bawn surround the tower.
A national monument managed by the Office of Public Works.
