Cranagh Castle, County Tipperary, in August 1987 and in 1997.
The cylindrical tower house, circa 1580, was attached to a much later Georgian house. The tower house was truncated and it has a later roof.
There are certain similarities between it and Ballynahow Castle, also in County Tipperary.
Seen here alongside its owners at the time.
The eighteenth century house to which the tower was attached, went on fire in 1996 and was beyond recovery.
The later of the photographs show the demolition of the Georgian house. Luckily, the castle’s thick walls saved it.
