O’Carrolls’ Castle, County Offaly, in August 1987.
George Cunningham, a retired headmaster, from Roscrea pointed us in the direction of this one.
Comprising of a substantial bawn wall with corner turrets, that projected out from the wall.
The entrance was in the middle of the S/W wall. My notes say that there was a wide arch and the remains of a bolt hole.
There was a wall running perpendicular across inside of the bawn. The south corner turret had gone. Low shot holes. No tower or house remains apparent.
