Clonony Castle, County Offaly, in August 1987.
A fine 4 storey tower house with a good bawn, associated with the Boleyn family.
It has all the classic tower house features, but without a roof. Some 19th century renovations were carried out and others more recently.
At the end of a long day’s castle hunting in 1987, we obviously had only one precious photograph left in our roll of film and choose to use it up taking a picture of this loop on the north west wall. Such was life in pre digital days.
