On our visit then, it had no roof, but three floors below a vault which protected the building.
Many of the original floor timbers had survived. The Marnell sisters were living in it up the the late 1960s, but they only used the lower floors.
Frank Gray, engineer, bought it and began restoration in the 1970s. He had renovated a lodge on site in 1986.
