Grannagh Castle, County Kilkenny, near Waterford City, in June 1990. Traditional south Kilkenny thatched cottage in the foreground of a type that would once have been familiar to those living in similar castles and tower houses around Ireland.
Granagh is an early castle originally built by the De Poer family. The earliest parts consist of the curtain wall and three round turrets, dating back to the thirteenth century.
The tall square tower is later and has some seventeenth century additions. A fine two storied hall stood to the west of the tower.
