Quirke’s Castle, Cashel, County Tipperary. At least that is the name that I filed it under, in May 1987. These days it seems to be better known as Kearney’s Castle.
Conrad Cairns refers to it as Grant’s Castle and also as the King’s Castle.
Thought to have been built as a royal prison, only the shell of it remains.
The interior had been modernised for use as a hotel.
The most noticeable features are the three gargoyles, hanging over the street, with human faces. Along with the stepped battlements.
