Old Clare Castle, County Clare in August 1987. Beside the Fergus River and adjacent to mid 18th century barracks. My notes state: Dome and barrel vault over ground floor. First floor done over and a good fireplace with slightly arched chimney piece. Stairs outside to first floor. Internal spiral stairs and mural chambers above the barrel vault. Plaster and lime wash over everything including cut stone pointed arches over doors. Garderobe from second floor (grassed over) to mural chamber between 1st and second floors. Evidence of a much larger building attached to it at a later stage. Has been messed about with, but very interesting and in reasonably condition.
